Sándor Buglya is, quite literally, a child of liberation – or at least of the peace that followed the Second World War. His parents were married on 4 April 1945 [the Soviet-announced ‘liberation day’ in Hungary under post-war communist rule], and he was born on 16 December in Újkécske [a town in central Hungary].
