István Jelenczki is an ‘independent intellectual’ (Tóth 2003), an artist in the noblest sense of the word, who was socialised in deep poverty in the so-called ‘Chicago district’ of Budapest’s Erzsébetváros, near Garay Square. A child of a plumber and a cleaner, he nevertheless reached, through autodidactic means, a point where he is able, through his works, to speak about the most fundamental questions of life and death
A decoration awarded by the Minister of Defence or the Chief of the Hungarian Defence Forces in multiple grades.
