Ferenc Kósa began his career as a director during the renewal of Hungarian cinema in the early 1960s. His graduation film, Tízezer nap (Ten Thousand Days) (1965–67), which received an award at the Cannes Film Festival, not only brought him international recognition but also established him as one of the defining figures of young Hungarian cinema.
