Full member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts (2011–)

József Kótai’s creative career and his search for an individual artistic path began in 1963, following the completion of his studies at the Iparművészeti Főiskola (College of Applied Arts). Just as the figure of Miklós Borsos and his school-forming sculptural practice exerted a decisive influence during Kótai’s higher education, so too did this intellectual legacy provide the foundations for the creation of his own autonomous artistic world.

Meritorious Artist of Hungary

State award for artists who have created outstanding artistic values over a prolonged period in Hungarian national culture and artistic fields (theatre, music, dance, circus, film, visual, photography, applied arts), and who already hold an artistic award granted by the minister responsible for culture. The recipient is entitled to the title “Meritorious Artist of Hungary” (short: “Meritorious Artist”).

One of the most prestigious Hungarian state awards for the arts. The recipient is entitled to the title “Outstanding Artist of Hungary” (short: “Outstanding Artist”). Only those who already hold the Meritorious Artist award and have held it for at least five years are eligible.
